As summer comes to a bittersweet close, we scramble to accomplish our last-minute errands. For those going back to school, gathering school supplies at busy stores such as Target and Walmart can cause more of a headache than relief. And as nice as it is for parents to see their children go back to school, it can be tough to let go again. But, amid all of the chaos that comes with the end of summer vacation, it is important to remember to take some time to relax and reflect on the memories that you made this year. Starting fresh again for the fall can feel amazing, but you should check out these next five activities to end your summer with a bang!
Fun Lan Drive-In Theater
Located at 2302 East Hillsborough Avenue in Tampa, Florida, the Fun Lan drive-in theater is a prime destination for a cool summer night. Currently, films such as Straight Outta Compton and Fantastic Four are playing from evening until late at night. Gather some friends, lay a few blankets in the backseat of your car and have a fun night out all while in the comfort of your vehicle. This is a great way to bond with your friends and family without distracting others, as would happen in a normal movie theater. You could even make some snacks and drive to the theater in your pajamas. Enjoy!
Pier 60 Boardwalk
If you are more of the outdoors type, then Pier 60 at Clearwater Beach is perfect for you! Being outside does not mean you have to sweat uncomfortably, which is why Sunsets at Pier 60 is ideal. From 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. every day of the year, live music plays and crafters of all sorts line down the boardwalk at Pier 60 to sell some of the most unique pieces of art and jewelry you will ever see. During the summertime, there are movies on a big screen, it's a great getaway for parents and/or kids. This is perfect for taking the kids out to see the beach without being stuck under the hot sun all day long. There are even bounce houses to play in! The drive is worthwhile if you are coming from across the Courtney Campbell Causeway, and parking is much easier to find at night than during the day.
Rita's Italian Ice
However, if you do choose to go to Clearwater Beach during the day, then you must stop by Rita's for an Italian ice or frozen custard! There is no better way to cool off than with a frozen treat. They are the essence of summertime! The most popular treat is the Gelati, which is any Italian ice of your choice topped with a flavored frozen custard. They also offer frozen shakes and blended custards and ices. You simply cannot miss out! Rita's Italian Ice is located at 1010 Court Street in Clearwater.
Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park
The beach is not for everyone. Large crowds can become overwhelming, which is why a picnic at a park with waterfront views is the next best option. Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in Downtown Tampa is a very relaxing environment with large grassy areas ideal for having a picnic or laying out and reading your favorite novel. Located directly across the Hillsborough River from the University of Tampa, Curtix Hixon park offers striking views from the Kennedy Boulevard bridge all down the Tampa Riverwalk. Many people enjoy bringing their pets out to play, and children love playing in the grass. You will also see many businessmen and businesswomen taking their lunch breaks on benches in the park. This park serves as a communal place for everyone in the Tampa Bay area, which is why it is a must-see on the list of last-minute things to do in Tampa for the summer.
Overall, summer is always an exciting time. The thought of summertime brings an instant smile to our faces throughout the year. To keep positive memories of summer, enjoy your last few days or weeks of freedom by cherishing your moments with these activities. We can promise that your time will definitely be well spent!
